Programme Witchcraft :
Mussorgsky: A Night on Bald Mountain
Liszt: Sonata for piano in B minor
Dukas: The Sorcerer's Apprentice
With 'Sorcellerie', the Jatekok Duo opens a door to a world where classical music becomes the medium for a bold exploration of the occult and the fantastic. This Warner Classic album (out on 1er November) is a quest for the extraordinary through the prism of the piano and love, where each chosen work is a sonic spell that evokes enchanting tales and timeless legends.
Liszt's Sonata, brilliantly transcribed by Saint-Saëns, becomes the heart of this collection, representing the Faustian pact par excellence. Its complex structure and daring harmonies embody human ambition taken to the extreme, illustrating the eternal struggle between excess and downfall, between light and darkness.
As a counterpoint, Dukas's 'L'Apprenti sorcier' adds a touch of mischief and recklessness, reminding us that youth is often a mixture of daring and inexperience, with unforeseen consequences. This piece is a musical metaphor for life, where the spells cast can backfire on the sorcerer himself.
Finally, the inclusion of Mussorgsky's 'Night on Bald Mountain' evokes a supernatural atmosphere where ancient and mysterious forces are at work. The piece unfolds like a living tableau of the danse macabre, where the boundary between the world of the living and that of spirits disappears for the space of a night.
"Sorcery" is not just an album; it is a musical narrative that celebrates the richness of the human imagination and its expression through the art of the piano. For the discerning listener, it is an invitation to rediscover classical works in a new light, to experience the magic of music capable of evoking and transforming ancient myths into a contemporary and spellbinding experience.
