Immerse yourself in the salon of Princess Zinaida Volkonskaya, a musical and literary mecca brought back to life in Paris.
Recreating the elegant atmosphere of the princess's salon Zenaïde Volkonskaya (Wolkonsky) (1789-1862) - composer, singer, patron of the arts and a major intellectual figure in Moscow in the 1820s - is the theme of this evening.
A centre of cultural life and a close friend of many writers and musicians, Volkonskaya's salon was a meeting place for new music, poetry, opera projects between friends and the creations of composers who are little known today.
This programme brings together the composers she loved, from Alyabiev, Genishta and Glinka to Donizetti and Liszt, to offer a vivid, intimate and sensitive portrait of an exceptional woman who made pre-romantic Russia shine, and whose salon blended music, poetry and inspired conversation with unique grace.
The programme will be conducted and commented on in French by Philip Bullock, Professor at Oxford University and former Fellow of the Université Grenoble Alpes, and a 3D version of Volkonskaya's salon will be presented during the evening.
