Duo Paracelcus - classical guitar and cello

Friday 6 December 2024 at 7pm

Come and hear the Romanian guitar and cello duo Paracelsus perform works by Bach, Beethoven, Bartok, Chopin, List, Escude...

The Romanian duo Paracelsus was born of a meeting that the two musicians instantly felt was providential, as they each found the ideal partner to meet their requirements. Paracelsus Duo has been very active: in 5 years it has given over 100 concerts all over the world.

Călin Grigoriu is not only Romania's most versatile guitarist, but also an excellent composer (he has written music for dozens of plays and films, working with the famous director Francis Ford Coppola among others), and a highly skilled orchestrator - all the tracks you are about to hear being his arrangements for this instrumental formula.

Andrei Kivu is the first Romanian cellist to have performed the complete Bach Suites for cello in concert, and the only cellist in the world to have transcribed and frequently played Bach's Sonatas and Partitas for violin (!).

Their repertoire is stylistically wide-ranging, from Baroque to Contemporary.

As the name suggests, the two musicians are on a perpetual quest for sonic alchemy - which is the foundation of the music itself.

Their credo is that music can transcend know-how only when it is underpinned by the purity of the essential alchemical element, the only thing that can transform sound and emotion into a real, fully lived experience.

On 6 December 2024, the duo will invoke the spirits of Bach, Beethoven, Bartok, Chopin, List, Escudero and Pujol, whose high vibrations will fill the air of the Rachmaninoff Conservatoire concert hall.
